Staring into the night

staring out at into the night, while sitting on the deck,
listening, and watching, waiting for something, I do not know what IT is,
but here I sit. Staring into the night, suddenly I hear a sound, not your typical apartment complex sound,
but a loud, thundering boom then a flash of light follows shortly afterwards.
That's it, nothing more, all quiet again. What the hell was that? It was freaky, it was not thunder and lightening from a thunderstorm, I do not know what it was, but I know what it wasn't....
